Perforating Slotted Liners Restores Inflow

  • Perforating plugged screens or slotted liners is a common remedial procedure to restore inflow
  • In unconsolidated sand reservoir perforating a plugged liner in a manner that manages sand inflow stimulates flow rate by expanding the effective wellbore
  • Cavity Completion (called CHOPS in Western Canada heavy oil wells) is controlled extraction of several hundred cubic meters of near casing or liner sand resulting in oil inflow 4 to 6 times greater than theory predicts, and increases recovery more than 5 fold over sand exclusion completions

  • The entire liner does not need to be perforated to maximize recovery. Use the average drained diameter of off-setting vertically cavity completion produced wells to determine perforation spacing. If vertical wells are unavailable, start with 100 meter spacing.
